About Me

I am a chartered and registered Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of experience in using psychological therapies to help people with their mental health and wellbeing. I only use psychological approaches that have been proven to work. I believe effective psychological therapy is more than just listening – it requires the use of active, structured techniques grounded in psychological research. My goal is to improve the problem in the fewest sessions possible given your time and money is valuable.

What I Offer

The variety of different types of therapists can be confusing but: “The title of chartered psychologist is legally recognized and reflects only the highest standard of psychological knowledge and expertise” (British Psychological Society). As a clinical psychologist what I offer is professional help using psychological approaches based on evidence.

When you get in touch I will carry out an initial free phone call. If I feel I am likely to be of help, I will carry out an assessment in a non-judgmental and supportive manner. The assessment will include a discussion of the treatment options. I will only draw from approaches for which there are evidence and will make reference to national guidelines and research. If I feel your needs will be better served by a different expert I will help you to find one. The psychological therapies I offer include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and approaches informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), compassion-focussed therapy and mindfulness.

The above therapies address a range of psychological difficulties. I have particular expertise in depression and offer CBT and IPT for this, both of which are National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended therapies for this condition. I also offer expertise in sexual difficulties affecting women. I offer help to adults of all ages and adolescents from age 16, either in person or by Skype. I also provide clinical supervision to other professionals.

I have worked in primary care and specialist services including recurrent depression clinics, sexual health clinics and physical health services.

I hold a post graduate certificate in teaching and learning. I am Director of the University of Surrey IPT centre. I was Senior Clinical Tutor on the University of Surrey Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology 2003-19 where I oversaw the development of clinical psychology trainees and I am on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors.
