About Me

Dr Didier Danillon, Counselling Psychologist (DCounsPsych)

I am a warm and caring Counselling Psychologist. Originally from France, I have lived and worked in the UK for close to 20 years.

I have trained in psychology and counselling for over 10 years, to express my caring nature and apply my passion for understanding people. I am highly skilled in addressing a broad range of psychological and mental health difficulties.

What I Offer

Because each person is unique, I tailor my approach to every client. This means that I go beyond simply listening to you or applying counselling techniques. I will look through your difficulties and the mental-health diagnoses you may have received to see the person you are. I use a collaborative and creative approach to help you understand the psychological processes at the root of your problems and to help you break the cycles which keep you stuck.

Areas of specialization:

  • Anxiety and stress (panic attacks, OCD, Generalised Anxiety Disorder)
  • Depression, burnout
  • Low self-esteem and self-confidence difficulties
  • Couple and relationship crises (conflicts, divorce, affairs)
  • Anger
  • Trauma
  • Cancer, chronic illness, chronic pain
  • Bereavement and end of life
  • Difficulties associated with gender and sexual orientation

My approach is CBT-based: I choose the elements of CBT most helpful to you to address your issues, and use them in combination with elements from many other psychotherapeutic approaches, including:

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)
  • Mindfulness-based approaches
  • Trauma-focused approaches
  • Person-Centred Therapy

I can also use ‘pure’ CBT if you prefer or if this is required by your insurance.

Counselling is a collaborative process. It requires you to share your personal thoughts and feelings, and discuss significant moments of your past. This is why it is essential to form a meaningful connection with your therapist, in which you feel comfortable and able to trust them. The connection with my clients is what I value most in my work. I offer a free 15 minutes phone consultation to give you a chance to find out if you would feel comfortable working with me. To arrange your free consultation, all you need to do is contact me.

Training & Qualifications

I completed a doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Manchester. I am registered with the HCPC and a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I have experience of working with adults of all ages in multiple settings, including a private cancer clinic, several NHS mental health services (primary and secondary care), a secure unit within a psychiatric hospital, a hospice and with the Samaritans.
